I’m reminded of my late sister Mercedes when she belted out the words to an old congregational spiritual. “I get Joy when I think about what he’s done for me; I get happy when I think about what he’s done for me.” It was something about the word Joy…you would feel something on the inside. The lyrics would add “you can’t tell it, let me tell it; I know, I know what he’s done for me. And if you have “joy,” you know what I’m talking about and you know who “he” is.
Joy: internal, lasting, based on God’s presence. Happiness: temporary, fleeting, based on external circumstances. It’s a wrap!
Enjoy your weekend!
